Cultural Diversity Day New Poster

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development celebrates not only the richness of the world’s cultures but also the essential role of intercultural dialogue in achieving peace and sustainable development. The United Nations General Assembly first declared this World Day in 2002, following UNESCO’s adoption of the 2001 Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, recognizing the need to “enhance the potential of culture as a means of achieving prosperity, sustainable development and global peaceful coexistence.” (UNESCO)

In line with this, the Library held a webinar last May 21, 2021. Our vibrant speakers enthusiastically shared with us their experiences working with diverse communities. We are fortunate to have Ms. Sy Santos, a Filipina Manager based in Miami, Florida, Mr. Roberto Lim, Jr., a Social Science teacher from Philippine Cultural College, and Mr. Virgil Nicolo Tablizo of the Philippine Marine Corps.

The talk centered on how we, as diverse people from all walks of life should be aware of the different cultures and traditions of each other. Understanding and respect play an important role in acknowledging diversity and awareness is the key to further and develop harmony within a diverse environment.
